Mock Admissions Case Studies

Students (typically in their junior year) and their parents are invited to participate in a mock admissions evening known as Case Studies. The high school counselor will ask participants to prepare in advance by reading 3 sample college admissions applications. During the Case Studies event, students and parents will meet in small groups with an experienced admissions officer who leads a discussion on what colleges look for in an applicant, as well as what every college values.

Students learn first-hand how they will be evaluated, which helps them begin thinking of the qualities and strengths they bring to the process and what they will need to do to prepare for the application process. A college fair concludes the evening, allowing students to benefit from the contacts they make and ideas they explore.

What’s needed to host this event on your campus?

  • Cases should be distributed to your families prior to event and extra copies should be available that evening.

  • An auditorium/area with AV equipment and a sound system, preferred.

  • Volunteers to help check-in and direct participants to their small groups.

  • Enough classrooms/areas to accommodate the small groups. It would be ideal to have classrooms near one another with white boards with markers and erasers.

  • Tables to accommodate the participating colleges during the college fair.

  • One chair per table.
